Akhan identifies within the images he encounters those domains that present him with a conceptual problem. Utilizing various digital infrastructures, he manipulates, recontextualizes, and translates these images onto the pictorial surface. His practice operates within the ambiguous threshold between the reproducibility of the image and the singularity of the painting. By deploying images into void-like spaces, he amplifies his personal narrative through their silent vocabulary. Fictional series, open archives, images, materials, closed and open compositions, and neutral images—along with their depictions and painterly representations—form the core of his inquiry. He engages with the objects, spaces, and forms at the center of his work by isolating, constructing, and positioning them at a deliberate distance from the viewing eye.

Like the constantly moving and evolving fragments of endless narratives, these series reappear before us through new images as parts and sections striving to grasp a cohesive whole. The artist defines his practice and thematic inquiries as a constellation of meanings that attempt to emerge through fictional narratives. In his work, the meaning residing behind the frame and the image clings to existence and is reproduced through the spectatorial gaze; the silence is broken, and meaning continues to propagate and recur. An entity indistinguishable in one painting occupies the center of another. Placing an object into the void simultaneously renders absence possible, allowing the interior of the frame to engage in a dialogue with its exterior. Akhan singularizes that which has been replicated; he detaches it, confronting it upon the surface. What remains on the surface multiplies through the one who beholds it. Thus, the artist sustains his personal narrative through objects and images that hover in the liminal space between presence and absence.
